IV for Migraine Relief

IV for Migraine

If you’re a frequent migraine sufferer, you don’t need me to tell you how much migraines impact your life. From having to use up sick days to missing out on big events, migraines get in the way. In fact, research shows that 90% of migraine sufferers are unable to work or function normally during an attack – in the US alone there are over 113 million lost work days due to migraines!

What’s the Treatment?

Many migraine sufferers find themselves in so much pain that they seek treatment in an emergency room, spending over $5.4 billion every year to find relief. Typically this will result in an IV fluids drip with a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) like Toradol (also called ketorolac). Here is the official migraine treatment recommendation from A Neurologist’s Guide to Acute Migraine Therapy in the Emergency Room in Neurohospitalist:

Migraine is a common reason for emergency room visits… For those with relatively mild head pain and no nausea, oral therapy with a triptan or NSAID is a good starting point. If pain is more severe, or there is nausea, liberal IV fluid replacement should be provided.

That’s right – IV therapy is the current standard treatment in emergency rooms for migraines. Extra IV fluids are one of the most effective IV for migraine treatments – especially when combined into a “migraine cocktail” with pain and anti-nausea medicines plus vitamins and minerals that relax, soothe and replenish you at a cellular level.

Not up for a trip to the ER to get IV fluids? We can help!

No driving, no emergency waiting room, no copay, no exposure to that person who keeps coughing and sits down right next to you even though there are 17 empty seats.
