IV Therapy For Diarrhea In Arizona

Diarrhea is a common medical problem defined by loose, watery stools. Although diarrhea typically lasts no longer than a few days, it can cause uncomfortable symptoms and lead to serious dehydration. If you're suffering from diarrhea, you don't have to wait for the symptoms to go away on their own. In addition to seeking advice from your doctor, an IV for diarrhea could help alleviate some of your discomfort.

At Arizona IV Medics, we provide in-home IV therapy throughout the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Flagstaff, and Lake Havasu areas.

Recommended IV For Diarrhea

For symptoms of diarrhea, our compassionate paramedics and registered nurses typically recommend our Myer's Cocktail IV. This package, which costs $200, combines normal saline with a variety of essential vitamins and minerals to rehydrate the body and support recovery.

Have additional symptoms like nausea or pain? We can add medications tailored to your needs for $25 each.

What Causes Diarrhea?

Many different illnesses can cause diarrhea. Some may resolve on their own while others require medical intervention. Common causes of diarrhea include:

  •      Viruses: Norwalk virus, viral hepatitis and rotavirus can all cause diarrhea. Adequate hand-washing offers the best way to prevent the spread of viral diarrhea.
  •      Bacteria: Bacterial infections and parasites can also cause diarrhea. These organisms may enter the body when you consume contaminated food or water.
  •      Surgery: If you have recently had abdominal or gallbladder surgery, you may experience diarrhea during recovery. In addition to surgery, some antibiotic medications and cancer treatments can also cause diarrhea.
  •      Dietary causes: Foods containing fructose, artificial sweeteners and lactose are all common culprits. Diarrhea after eating dairy products could be a sign of lactose intolerance.
  •      Digestive disorders: Diarrhea that lasts longer than a few days may be caused by a digestive disorder such as Crohn's disease, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis or irritable bowel syndrome. You should consult your doctor if severe pain, dehydration or fever accompany diarrhea.

How IV Therapy Can Help With Diarrhea

Diarrhea can often lead to dehydration — especially if you're not replenishing lost fluids and electrolytes. Dehydration can have life-threatening effects in severe cases, so it's important to stay hydrated while you're sick. However, it takes time for the water you drink to enter the bloodstream. If diarrhea has caused you to become dehydrated, IV fluids could help. The saline from an IV enters directly into the bloodstream to rehydrate you quickly. Nausea and vomiting, cramps, and headaches can also accompany diarrhea. At AZ IV Medics, we can provide IV therapy to reduce these symptoms and get you feeling better.
